Matt Lennox-King
President, CEO and Director

Prior to joining Pilot Gold, Mr. Lennox-King was a Senior Geologist at Fronteer Gold, and a key member of their team since the company’s inception in 2001. He successfully identified properties and executed multi-million dollar exploration programs that generated exponential deposit growth for Fronteer Gold. Under his leadership as Project Manager, Aurora Energy Resource’s Michelin Uranium Project resource grew from 18 million pounds U308 to 140 million pounds U3O8, in what is now considered to be one of the largest undeveloped uranium deposits in the world. He was an integral part of Fronteer Gold’s business development team, leading comprehensive evaluations of more than 100 projects and leading Fronteer Gold’s Nevada project rationalization strategy. Mr. Lennox-King holds a B.Sc. in Geological Sciences from the University of British Columbia.

Moira Smith
Ph.D., P.Geo.
Chief Geologist

Formerly Chief Geologist, Nevada, for Fronteer Gold, Dr. Smith was instrumental in the successful advancement of Long Canyon, Fronteer Gold’s flagship project. She developed an understanding of the geology and controls on mineralization at Long Canyon, and built the geological model for ongoing exploration and resource growth. Prior to Fronteer Gold, she served as U.S. Exploration Manager, Senior Geologist and Project Manager for Teck where she managed exploration programs for several high-profile, advanced-stage projects throughout the Americas, including the 5.5 million ounce Pogo gold deposit, now in production; the 1.5 billion tonne Petaquilla Cu-Mo-Au porphyry deposit in Panama; and the 3.5 million ounce El Limon gold deposit in Mexico. Dr. Smith has a Ph.D. in geology from the University of Arizona and is a P.Geo. (British Columbia). She has held board or executive positions with numerous industry associations and is currently a Councilor and Fellow of the Society of Economic Geologists.

Vance Spalding

VP Exploration

Mr. Spalding served as Fronteer Gold’s Nevada Exploration Manager from 2009 to 2011, where he oversaw the Generative Exploration program which produced all of the properties in Pilot Gold’s Nevada portfolio. Mr. Spalding’s gold exploration experience spans more than 20 years. He was Project Manager at Centerra Gold from 1997 to 2009, where he led the discovery of two million ounces of gold at the REN project on the northern Carlin Trend. He was also Exploration Manager at Centerra’s  Kumtor Gold mine in the Kyrgyz Republic, where he managed a $15 million annual budget and supervised a staff of 400 employees. He has also worked for Santa Fe Pacific Gold and Gold Fields Mining on various exploration and development projects in the western United States. Mr. Spalding holds a B.Sc. in geology from the University of Idaho and holds the designation of Certified Professional Geologist (AIPG).

Patrick Reid

VP Corporate Affairs

Prior to joining Pilot Gold, Mr. Reid served as Senior Director, Institutional Sales for Fronteer Gold. Mr. Reid brings significant experience in investment and financial services on the buy side. Previous to joining Fronteer Gold he was Senior Vice President and Partner with AGF Investments Inc. AGF has more than $50 billion AUM in institutional, mutual fund and private client assets. Prior to AGF, he was Vice President at Sceptre Investment Counsel, working with Putnam Investments in the launch of the Putnam Funds in Canada. He started his career with TAL Global (now CIBC Asset Management) as Vice President Sales, covering relationships in western Canada. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of British Columbia. 

Alex Holmes

VP Business Development

Mr. Holmes brings a successful track-record in capital markets and M&A transactions, further strengthening Pilot Gold’s ability to identify and realize new opportunities. Mr. Holmes was previously Vice President, Investment Banking for NCP Northland Capital Partners Inc. and a key member of the firm’s Mining Team. As Vice President with PI Financial Corp. (2003-2010), he successfully led, co-led or managed hundreds of mining financing mandates and many successful M&A transactions in the mining sector. Prior to this, Mr. Holmes worked with a London, UK based investment bank. Alex earned the Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 2005 and has a M.Sc. in Investment Management, graduating with Distinction from Cass Business School in London.

Jim Lincoln

VP Operations

Previous to joining Pilot Gold, Mr. Lincoln was Vice President Operations for Fronteer Gold and Chief Operating Officer for Aurora Energy Resources. He has over 35 years of experience in the mining business and is familiar with all aspects of project development, including exploration, resource definition,  permitting, environmental assessment,  engineering, construction and operations. He has been a team member or project manager on 18 feasibility, prefeasibility and PEA studies in 10 countries including underground and surface mining projects. He has held technical and managerial positions for Boliden Canada, Cominco, Pegasus Gold Corporation, Dayton Mining Corporation, Mt. Isa Mines, and Jinshan Gold Mines Inc. He has been involved in major mining and development projects worldwide including Red Dog, Alaska; Magmont West zinc/lead Mine, Missouri; Diamond Hill Gold Mine, Montana; Andacollo Gold Mine, Chile; Sarsfield Gold Mine, Australia;  Pueblo Viejo Gold Mine, Dominican Republic; and the CSH 217 Gold Mine in Inner Mongolia, China. Mr. Lincoln holds a B.Sc. degree in geology and chemistry from Eastern Michigan University and an M.Sc. degree from the College of Materials Engineering, The Ohio State University.

John Wenger

Chief Financial Officer and Corporate Secretary

Mr. Wenger worked for Ernst & Young LLP Chartered Accountants from 2001 to 2011, where he acquired considerable experience in financial reporting for both Canadian and U.S. publicly listed companies, primarily in the mining industry. As a manager within the assurance practice of Ernst & Young, Mr.Wenger is well versed in the requirements of complex regulatory environments, and the requirements of Canadian GAAP and International Financial Reporting Standards. His responsibilities included implementing and testing internal controls, conducting IFRS conversion advisory services, and leading the audits of numerous publicly-listed  multinational mining companies. Mr. Wenger has been a Chartered Accountant with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of British Columbia since 2006.
